Introduction

Hillsong Evening College offers a wide range of short life changing courses that are designed for people who wish to increase their ministry skills yet also have other commitments. With four different streams to choose from you can tailor your own study options to suit your lifestyle!

Ministry Basics

Ministry Basics are holistic training courses that will help you learn to apply God’s word in a very practical way, as we study the Bible, Leadership, Lifestyle and Theology. These courses will help to equip you for your personal ministry.
Note: These subjects do not gain credits towards a Cert IV in Ministry, if you are wanting to study for accreditation see our Ministry Foundation Courses.
Each subject runs for 7 weeks and you can choose to study per subject, semester or for the year - to fit into your lifestyle!

Learning Sessions:

One night per week for 2 ½ hours in total
Teaching Sessions – each week will include 2 x 50min sessions - lecture style
Tutorials – each week will consist of 1 x 25min group session where homework and previous teaching sessions will be used to stimulate discussion.

Homework:

Each week you will get a small amount of work to complete @ home. It should take about 20 minutes to complete and it will be used to stimulate discussion the following week in our Tutorial Time. There is also some “Advanced Questions” for those who wish to do more in-depth study.

Course Acknowledgement:

Subject certificates will be issued to those studying individual subjects and those completing all four subjects will be presented with a course completion certificate at the end of the year.

Attendance:

Each week we ask that you mark your attendance on the roll provided, 80% attendance is required per subject to receive your course completion certificate.

Subjects include:

  • Bible  -  Learn how to read the bible devotionally and for study purposes. Study the historical background to the bible, how to use the bible, study tools and how to get new revelations from the bible.
  • Leadership  -  Learn effective leadership qualities and skills that can build your own life and the lives of others, seeing the kingdom move forward.  Expands on what Godly leadership principles that are found throughout the Bible.
  • Lifestyle  -  How to build a strong devotional life: how to find your purpose in God, and live a life that can fulfill that purpose, how to hear from God.
  • Theology  -  Develop a personal theology in a biblical and thoughtful way that will be a blessing to you and your church community.
  • How To Study the Bible - This subject will challenge you to go beyond the format of a daily devotion and really STUDY God's Word.  You will be equipped to undertake a biographical study and more.  In addition, you will learn about the different kinds of literature found in the Bible and how each of these should be read, interpreted and applied differently to your life.  (Brisbane Campus only).

Ministry Foundations

This course caters for those who want to go deeper into the Word through part-time study.  Each subject runs for 14 weeks, giving time and space to explore key topics more thoroughly.  The subjects taught are drawn directly from our Certificate IV in Ministry.  This means, if you choose to complete the assessments you will receive credits towards the Cert IV in Ministry with Hillsong International Leadership College.  Or you can just enjoy the teaching without doing the assessments.  You can choose to enrol for a single semester or the full year.
Note: this course does not cover sufficient subjects to gain a Cert IV in Ministry but the credits can be used if you choose to complete a Certificate / Diploma or Advanced Diploma with Hillsong International Leadership College.

Learning Sessions:

One night per week for 2 ½ hours in total (2 hours of learning)
Teaching Sessions – each week will include 2 x 60min sessions -lecture style + 1 x 25 min Tutorial.

Assessments:

Assessments vary between short answer questions and exams depending on subject.

Course Acknowledgement:

Subject certificates will be issued to those studying individual subjects and those completing 2 subjects will be presented with a course completion certificate at the end of the year.

Attendance:

Each week we ask that you mark your attendance on the roll provided, 80% attendance is required per subject to receive your course completion certificate.

Subjects Include:

We offer the following subjects, please note not all subjects are available at all campuses each year.  Please check the application form for 2013 subject selection.
  • Old Testament Introduction  -  This subject provides you with an introduction to the Old Testament and consideration of God’s progressive revelation of Himself through the Old Testament.  You will learn how God revealed Himself through Creation and the history of Israel, and how He prepared His people for the fulfillment of His plans in Jesus Christ.
  • Christian Doctrine  -  This subject surveys some key doctrines of the Christian Faith.  It looks at the teaching of those doctrines in the context of modern Christian living and examines how they apply to everyday faith.  The course includes:  The word of God, righteousness and sin, humanity, angels, satan and evil spirits, salvation, the church & end times.
  • New Testament Introduction  -  This subject provides you with an overview of the New Testament and each of the books, linking it to its historical background, the ministry of Jesus and the growth of the early church.  You will also develop the knowledge and skills required to read and study the NT for your own personal growth and for use in ministry.
  • Personal Evangelism  -  This subject will help you develop your Christian evangelistic lifestyle and your ability to build appropriate relationships with non-Christians. You will also learn to share your own testimony in a constructive and concise manner without using Christian terms.
  • Spirit Filled Living  -  This subject covers many aspects of the Holy Spirit including Jesus and the Holy Spirit, gifts of tongues and interpretation, learning to minister in power, divine healing, laying on of hands, baptism of the Holy Spirit and walking in the Holy Spirit.
  • Church History  -  This subject sketches an overview of the history of the church starting from the Book of Acts and the day of Pentecost through to the birth of the Pentecostal Church in the 20th Century.  The topics covered include the Apostolic period, Paul's church planting, the Roman Empire and persecution of the church, the east and west divide, the Reformation, Catholicism and Protestantism and much more!
  • Mission & Culture -  This subject explores the world of Missions, and how Christian mission has developed and morphed in different cultures throughout history.  You will examine topics such as worldview, western and non-western mission and missions in Australia.  Cross cultural communication and intercultural relationships will also be studied in the light of our globalised world, giving you tools and insight into effective missions in the 21st century.

Every believer is saved and called for a God-given purpose.  Living a powerful Christian life involves finding and pursuing God’s purpose for your life.  Here you will be introduced to what the Bible says about God’s purpose for your life and how it fits into His purposes for His Church in this generation.  You will discover how you are personally and uniquely shaped for your destiny, how you can identify your purpose, and what qualities will help you successfully fulfill your purpose.  This course runs for 28 weeks over the year.

Learning Sessions:

Teaching Sessions – each week will include 2 x 50min sessions -lecture style + 1 x 25 minute Tutorial.

Course Acknowledgement:

A course completion certificate will be issued for completing the full year of study.

Leadership

Developing the Leader Within You

Has everyone been called to leadership?  What is leadership?  What are those personal qualities and skills that increase our influence?  Before we can effectively lead others, we need to first learn how to lead in our own life.  This exciting short 7 week course, which has been written based on content from Dr John Maxwell's book and Million Leaders Mandate curriculum, would be a perfect first step in equipping yourself in becoming a person of Godly influence in your world.
Each student will receive:
  • A copy of John Maxwell's book "Developing The Leader Within You"
  • A student notebook to keep as record of the notes taken from each lecture.

Lifekeys Programs

We can all be better equipped to lead successful lives but sometimes life throws us challenges that take us by surprise and leave us wondering how to overcome our circumstances. We offer great short course programs  (5 to 10 weeks) that address the issues of ordinary people, struggling with everyday life. Please refer to our application form for information on courses running at a campus near you!

Programs Include:

  • Valiant Man challenges men to step up and become what God created them to be. It is an opportunity to conquer the issues of sexuality. (10 weeks)
  • Search for Intimacy  -  Sex is a part of life.  Managed rightly, it is a profound blessing.  Managed poorly, it is a source of pain and distress.  People need more than rules about sex; they need a theology of sex that empowers them to live successfully in a sex-crazy environment.  This course is directed at the needs of young singles. (9 weeks)
  • Search for Life   -  (This course is a pre requisite for Facilitator Training)  -  Everyone has a heartfelt desire to be valued, accepted, loved and to feel that they have significance. Search for Life addresses these needs and explains where the desires originate and how we can negotiate them well. (10 weeks) 
  • Woman to Woman  -  Every woman carries with her the strengths and weaknesses of her background. She carries the legacy of her past into all her relationships – family, business and church. This course will show participants how to free themselves from the past and focus on the future and provide strategies and skills needed to make positive and lasting changes in relationships. (10 weeks)
  • Mastering Your Money  -  Although effectively managing your income and expenditure is one of the most basic skills required for life, most people have had no education or discipleship on this vital subject from home, school or church.  Mastering Your Money is one of the most important elements involved in maintaining viable marriage and home where parents raise stable families.  Whether married or single, learning to budget with intelligence and discipline is the key for turning dreams about home ownership and living a life of generosity into a reality.  Mastering Your Money is also one of the most potent discipleship areas for engaging with God and growing in trust and obedience.  This program gives biblical insight and practical how-to application.  A program designed to provide people with a sound approach to financial management. (5 weeks)
  • Boundaries in Marriage  -  You long for a marriage marked by lifelong love, intimacy and growth. And it can be yours – if you set wise boundaries. Boundaries are the “property lines” that define and protect each of you as individuals. Get them in place and you can make a good marriage better and possibly even save a less-than-satisfying one. By the time you have completed this course, you will know yourself and your spouse better than ever before. (8 weeks)
  • The Pre Marriage Course  - The aim of the program is to help couples lay the foundation for a relationship that will last a lifetime!  During the program you will look at topics like: The importance of commitment, How to recognise and appreciate your differences, The art of communication, Resolving conflict, The importance of spending time together and nurturing your friendship, Making each other feel loved, Developing a good sexual relationship and the importance of talking about your goals, values and dreams.  (5 weeks)
  • The Marriage Course  - The aim of the program is to help couples grow closer and build a healthy relationship that will last a lifetime!  Over the sessions you will discover practical tools to help you: understand each other's needs, communicate more effectively, grow closer through resolving conflict, heal the ways you've hurt each other, recognise how your upbringing affects your relationship, improve relationships with parents and in-laws, develop greater sexual intimacy, discover each other's love languages and much, much more! (7 weeks)
  • The Parenting Children & Teenagers Courses  -  These programs are developed for parents of children (0-10) and (11-18) years old.  Topics covered: Building strong foundations, meeting our children's needs, setting boundaries, teaching healthy relationship, keeping the end in mind, meeting our teenager's needs, developing emotional health and helping them make good choices. (5 weeks each)
  • Divorce Recovery  -  Divorce is challenging and often overwhelming for those who find themselves having to negotiate a fractured relationship.  Through teaching and caring support this program aims to give participants an understanding of the divorce experience.  Provide a safe place to process grief and loss and find skills and courage to rebuild.  Participants will commence the journey toward renewed strength, finding practical help and hope for the future.  This program draws from research and best practice in the fields of psychology, sociology, education and theology.  It includes the life experiences and reflections of those who have been through divorce.  (7 weeks)
  • Grief Share  -  This program is designed to provide support for people recovering from the deep hurt that comes with the death of someone close. Our aim is to see God bring healing and hope for your future. (10 weeks)
  • Facilitator Training (Prerequisite Search of Life and Key Leader’s referral)  -  This program contains a strong component of practical group work with development of related skills. It aims to lay a sound information base in behavioral, emotional and spiritual aspects of recovery. (7 weeks)
